Baked Sweet Potato Air Fryer Recipe
It’s hard not to love a delicious loaded potato, with melted cheese, bacon and a generous topping of sour cream. And somehow this recipe tastes even better with sweet potato.
The extra flavour packs a punch, making this a crowd-pleaser recipe!
Best of all, cooking sweet potatoes in the air fryer means using much less oil and it makes it easier to achieve crispy skin too, without worrying so much about burning them. I find cooking them in the air fryer instead of the oven creates consistently fluffy sweet potatoes.
Time to get those potatoes baking!
Preparing The Potatoes
Clean and pat dry each of your sweet potatoes first, then use your fork to pierce holes in a few places on your potatoes. This helps prevent them from bursting and turning your air fryer into a sweet potato mess.
Use a pastry brush to coat the sweet potatoes with oil.
Season the potatoes with salt and pepper.
How To Bake Sweet Potato In An Airfryer
Place your sweet potatoes in the air fryer, ideally in a single layer. This will help them to cook evenly.
If you have a smaller air fryer, as we do, you may not be able to avoid them overlapping. While not ideal, ensure you rotate the sweet potatoes in the basket several times to cook them evenly.
Air fry your sweet potatoes for approximately 35 to 40 minutes, or until cooked through, at 200 degrees Celsius.
Wider sweet potatoes will require a longer cooking time to penetrate right into the centre. Test the tenderness with a fork to determine if they require more time.

How To Serve Baked Sweet Potato
You can serve your air fryer baked sweet potato in several ways. If you want them as the hero of your meal, turn them into stuffed baked sweet potatoes, loaded up with your favourite fillings.
Here are some stuffed sweet potato filling ideas:
- Bacon
- Pulled pork
- Grated cheese
- Jalapenos
- Olives
- Corn
- Salsa
- Sour cream
- Or any other fillings of your choice!
That’s what we did on this occasion and they were perfection. They were also very filling and were perfect with a lighter side salad, such as this avocado egg salad or a garden salad.
Alternatively, serve them as a side dish with a roast or protein dish.
Or remove your soft, fluffy baked potato from the skin and mash them up for a perfect sweet potato mash, mixing in butter, milk and seasoning. I love to add cinnamon to sweet potato mash.

If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake your sweet potatoes in the oven for the same result. This will take a similar amount of time, using a baking dish. You can wrap your potatoes in foil if you want to keep the skins softer.
