PUFF PASTRY AIR FRYER PIZZA ROLLS
We have been loving our air fryer lately, using it for more and more different things. There are so many easy things to make in the air fryer.
Plus I’m always looking for new interesting ideas for school lunches for the kids.
These homemade air fryer pizza scrolls are a winner, with both kids and adults.
The best part – they only take around 15 to 20 minutes to prep and cook, which is perfect if you’re short on time for a quick and easy afternoon snack or meal idea!
These homemade pizza rolls are essentially like sausage rolls with the puff pastry but with an airfryer pizza twist!
You could absolutely do a similar air fryer recipe using ground beef and fillings or try chicken sausage rolls in the air fryer instead, using a similar method and adjusting the cooking time to ensure the meat cooks through!
Or if you don’t have an air fryer, these pizza scrolls are a great conventional oven-baked alternative.

Ingredients For Homemade Air Fryer Pizza Rolls
The best thing about this recipe is that aside from the puff pastry, you can use any ingredients you already have at home.
This is a great way to use up leftovers to make your own loaded pizza rolls in your air fryer.
- Frozen puff pastry sheets
- Tomato paste or another sauce of your choice, such as marinara sauce or pizza sauce
- Grated cheese (mozzarella is a great pizza cheese but try your favourite cheeses)
- Pizza fillings of your choice
Filling Ideas
If you need ideas for pizza roll fillings, the options are endless, with plenty of simple ingredients you can use.
These rolls can be a great way to use up leftovers such as leftover taco meat, rotisserie chicken or pulled pork.
It can also be a really simple recipe to make with your favourite pizza toppings, such as:
- Ham
- Bacon
- Pineapple
- Olives
- Sun-dried tomatoes
- Dried herbs
- Fresh basil
- Sweet potato
- Feta
- Salami
- Turkey
- Pepperoni
- Chicken
- Tofu
- Parmesan cheese
For a flavour twist, try barbecue sauce or sweet chilli sauce instead of tomato paste or keep them really simple with extra pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese, with a sprinkle of herbs for a margarita pizza roll.
This is a great way to use up leftover ham, turkey, rotisserie chicken or taco meat too.

How To Make Pizza Rolls In The Air Fryer
STEP ONE – Place a sheet of puff pastry on a clean surface – either your benchtop or a large board. Spread out tomato paste or pizza sauce on a sheet of puff pastry, leaving a small gap along one side.
This will make it easier when you roll it up.
STEP TWO – Add your toppings and grated cheese on top. Have your toppings close to the edge on 3 of the 4 sides as this gives you a little room once you roll your pastry.
STEP THREE – Roll up your puff pastry sheet and press down firm at the end (this was my first one and I didn’t leave a gap with my fillings).
STEP FOUR – Slice the puff pastry pizza roll into smaller portions, approximately 4 or 5 centimetres wide.
STEP FIVE – Line your air fryer basket with a sheet of baking paper (parchment paper), a baking sheet or apply generous spray oil. I prefer to line the tray as this will minimise the mess from the melted cheese and reduce the chance of your rolls sticking to the bottom of the basket.
Add your rolls in a single layer to the bottom of your air fryer basket.
Bake for approximately 10 to 12 minutes in the air fryer at 180 degrees Celsius (350F) until they are cooked through and golden brown. This will ensure you have crispy pizza rolls.
TIP: To ensure they get a nice crispy puff pastry texture, turn them over halfway and make sure you don’t put too many in the air fryer basket at once. You may need to cook them in 2 or 3 batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.
And that’s it! Your pizza scrolls in the air fryer are ready to enjoy!

How Long To Cook Pizza Rolls In Air Fryer
When it comes to cook time for your air fryer pizza rolls, there are a few things to consider.
As a general rule, the cooking time is approximately 10 to 12 minutes for a batch of pizza rolls in the air fryer. However here are some tips to ensure the best results:
Firstly, if you heavily fill your pizza rolls with delicious pizza fillings, they will need a little longer to cook through to the centre.
To help ensure you cook your rolls evenly, I recommend rotating them halfway through cooking.
The other variable to consider is the size of your air fryer trays. If you have a small air fryer model, cooking your rolls in batches will prevent your air fryer basket from being over-filled.
This will also help to evenly cook your puff pasty pizza rolls because nobody wants a soggy pizza roll!
How To Store Air Fried Pizza Rolls
These delicious pizza rolls taste great warm, out of the air fryer, or you put them in an airtight container once they have cooled and refrigerate for school lunches.
You can also freeze them if you want to make up a big batch in bulk and have some for later.
You can freeze the uncooked pizza rolls then defrost ready for the air fryer or cook first and freeze, then defrost and reheat the same way you could a sausage roll.
Which Air Fryer Should I Get?
We have a Philips Air Fryer and we love it. Really easy to use, easy to clean and it does a great job with all the different types of food we cook in it.
Ours is an older model now, however, I will absolutely be going Philips again when we need to upgrade. Although ours is doing great so far so hopefully that’s a while away!
Next time we will get the extra-large air fryer though so we can do larger portions of meat too.
For my fellow Aussies, the Kmart air fryers are a great option too. Both mine and hubby’s parents have one and they love it!

FAQs & Troubleshooting
Why Are My Pizza Rolls Soggy?
If your air fryer pizza rolls have a lot of fillings and sauce, or if your air fryer basket is very full, your rolls will need to cook for longer to ensure they are cooked right through. Make sure not to overfill your air fryer basket and rotate your rolls halfway through cooking to help them cook evenly. You may need to cook them longer than 10 to 12 minutes if they are not yet golden brown.
Can I Use Different Types Of Pastry?
While this recipe would likely be great with different types of pastry or dough, I have not yet tested them myself so you will need to adjust the cooking times to suit.
How Do I Prevent My Rolls Burning?
If you are finding your pizza rolls are burning on the outside before they are cooked through, you can brush them with olive oil before cooking to minimise this.

Air Fryer Pizza Rolls
Any pizza lover will enjoy these 15-minute air fryer pizza rolls, filled with their favourite pizza toppings.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry
- Tomato paste
- 2 cups Grated mozzarella cheese
- Pizza fillings of your choice – ham, bacon, salami, olives, mushroom etc
Instructions
- On a clean surface, lay out a sheet of puff pastry and spread it with tomato paste.
- Add your choice of pizza toppings and cheese, leaving a gap of 2cm on one edge.
- Roll up your puff pastry sheet and press down firm at the end.
- Slice pastry roll into sections that are approximately 4-5cm wide.
- Line air fryer basket with a sheet of baking paper. Bake for approximately 10-12 minutes in the air fryer on 180 degrees Celsius (350F) or until golden brown and cooked through. Turn your rolls over way through cooking to ensure they cook evenly.
Notes
- Ensure you leave a gap on one side of your pastry where you have not added toppings right to the edge. This will make it easier to roll your pastry and have it stay in shape.
- Lining the air fryer basket is optional, however, it can reduce the amount of mess from melted cheese from your rolls.
- Each sheet of pastry yields approximately 6 party-sized small rolls.
- For small air fryers, cook your rolls in smaller batches to avoid over filling your air fryer basket.
- Rotate your rolls halfway through cooking to ensure even cooking.
