15 EASY HEALTHY LUNCH IDEAS FOR HOME
Working at home has its perks. For the most part, it’s pretty awesome, however, there are a few potential negatives that also come with working from home. For me, one of the worst was my eating habits.
I found myself eating far too many convenience foods instead of taking the time to prepare something healthy (and likely more delicious), so it was time to kick this bad habit to the curb and come up with some easy healthy lunch ideas for home.

Salad Wraps
Wraps are a great easy healthy lunch idea, because like a sandwich, anything goes really for fillings, and they are a lighter option than bread.
Have a mix of salad items and meat filling available for a quick and easy lunch wrap.
We like to pre-cook chicken schnitzels and cut them up into strips, or slow-cooked seasoned chicken breast is another favourite.
Using leftover roast meat from dinner or leftover rotisserie chicken can be a great way of using up the food you already have. Pretty much anything can work on a wrap.
Here are some simple wrap filling ideas:
- Tuna
- Shredded chicken, beef or pork
- Feta
- Salmon
- Greens (lettuce, spinach, kate)
- Tomato
- Cheese
- Avocado
- Cucumber
Fried Rice
Rice is a great lunch idea for keeping you full for longer, especially if you have a habit of afternoon snacking. Choose brown rice for a healthier low GI option and mix in loads of vegetables with your choice of extras.
We like to add bacon or ham, egg, champignon mushrooms, mini prawns and whatever leftovers may be in the refrigerator into our fried rice. Then season to taste with soy sauce.
Hummus & Vegetable Sticks
Hummus is a great source of protein and makes for a delicious and healthy dip or spread. Try pairing hummus with some celery, cucumber, or carrot sticks as an easy and tasty lunch option. This is also a good idea if you’re looking for something to bring to work or school.
Peanut Butter & Banana Sushi
While this isn’t actually sushi, the idea is the same and you get a sweet fix with some healthy fats and fruit included. Add peanut butter to a wrap then add a whole banana and roll up like sushi. Cut into smaller pieces for a quick and easy lunch or snack.
Chicken Salad
Chicken salad is a healthy and easy lunch option made with cooked chicken and your choice of salad and dressing. This is an easy option when looking for healthy chicken recipes for lunch time.
Fruit Salad
Fruit is a great healthy option for lunches, either in a mixed seasonal fruit salad or even on its own. If fruit alone is a little on the light side and not adequately filling you up, consider chopping up fresh fruit into a bowl of yogurt or muesli.
This will create a far more balanced and filling lunch while still enjoying the refreshing fruit flavours.
Savoury Muffins
The best thing about savoury muffins, or any type of muffin really, is that you can bake ahead of time and freeze for later. These are so easy to defrost and enjoy for lunch or a snack.
Our favourite savoury muffins are these carrot, ham and cheese ones.
Quesadillas
For an easy Mexican inspired lunch idea, quesadillas are a favourite. If you are unfamiliar, it is essentially a soft tortilla loaded up with fillings, folded in half and grilled.
Our favourite filling is cooked shredded chicken, sweet chilli sauce and cheese. Or roast pumpkin and feta for a healthier alternative. We even made these when we were holidaying around New Zealand in a campervan.
Egg Salad Sandwich
An egg salad sandwich is a quick and easy idea you can plan ahead earlier in the week by hard-boiling your eggs.
Egg salad is made by mixing chopped hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, and other seasonings. The egg salad is then spread on bread, and the sandwich is usually garnished with lettuce or other salad.

Working from home makes it so easy to fall into bad food habits. I was doing great but will admit I had brownie for lunch one day over the weekend ? so bad! Back on the healthy food habits.

Ooh yum! I am way too lazy to do anything other than a peanut butter or vegemite sandwich at lunch time! I do have cheese and tabouli toasted wrap if we have some leftover from the night before. When i was pregnant i had gestational diabetes and i used to have leftovers for lunch every day from the last nights dinner. I don't know why I don't still do that it was so easy!

I'm going to be working/studying from home and I was just wondering what I would eat for lunch now that it doesn't have to be "packed" so this post is perfectly timed (and very delicious.) I think I might start with the soba noodle salad and work my way through the list! Thanks for linking up with the Ultimate Rabbit Hole.
